Pune: The Khadki police on Wednesday night registered a case of child marriage and rape against six people for allegedly marrying off a 17-year-old girl in March. The case has been registered against the minor girl ’s mother, father, two grandmothers, husband (24) and her father-in-law. Senior inspector Satish Jagdale of the Khadki police said, “The girl stays in Yerawada with her brother and mother, a casual worker.

” He said, “Her grandmothers stay in Bopodi, off Pune-Mumbai highway. On March 3, her grandmothers called her to Bopodi, where the to-be-groom and his family members were present. The girl’s mother and the two grandmothers had arranged the programme.



” Jagdale said, “The girl was thereafter married off by her mother, grandmothers and others by arranging a wedding ceremony in Khed. Her parents, grandmothers, husband, and father-in-law are implicated in the case. The girl fled in August and reported the incident, which is now under investigation by Khadki police. She befriended two men on social media who also assaulted her. The police have arrested all three perpetrators, and the victim has been placed in a government home for care and protection. Further investigations are underway.
