On Wednesday, again citing last week’s downpours from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, Chelsea issued a notice asking those served by its water system to reduce consumption as much as possible until Aug. 31 to facilitate maintenance operations at the filtration plant. It said at that time that the water was “safe and fit for consumption.
” On Thursday, Chelsea requested $1 million from the Quebec government to help fund recovery efforts following the heavy rain and winds. “It’s still very (early) for a precise number (for recovery costs), but the amount confirmed to (Quebec’s public safety department) in the initial estimate is indeed $1 million,” Ghislaine Grenier, Chelsea’s director of human resources and communications, said in an email.
