Cortney Smith, of Torgy’s Home Design, a Lewis County-based interior design business, has been named one of the National Kitchen + Bath Association’s (NKBA) “Thirty Under 30” Class of 2024, which highlights younger professionals excelling in the kitchen and bathroom industry. Smith is a small business owner who runs and manages Torgy’s Home Design on top of being a mother of three at the age of 29. She earned herself a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, to this year’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show to accept her NKBA award.

The business’s name comes from her fiance’s last name — Kacey Torgerson — and since 2020 they have both used the name for their multiple businesses, Smith told The Chronicle in an email. Her fiance also runs Torgy’s Mulching & Development, and together they also run Torgy’s Storage and Torgy’s Properties. Originally a psychologist, Smith got into interior design after having her first child and wanting to spend more time with her.

With her mother and grandmother both being interior designers, it was something she was already passionate about that also allowed her to spend more time at home. In 2020, she opened Torgy’s Home Design and since then has worked on over 50 kitchen and bath projects, including both remodels and new construction. Most recently, Smith helped Lewis County Coffee Company with interior designing at both The Station and The Creamery in Centralia.

Additionally, one of her remodel projects was just featured during the Olympia Master Builders Tour of Homes this past weekend. Born and raised in Chehalis and still in the area, Smith credits her success in the interior design industry to the support she gets from the community. “As far as the support I get from the community, I would say that my business would be non-existent without the clients that have trusted me with their home design and referring me to others.

The support has allowed me to pursue my passion for creating beautiful, personalized spaces that clients fall in love with,” Smith said. “I’m thankful for every opportunity to work and for the connections I have built along the way with local homeowners, contractors and business owners.” For more information on Torgy’s Home Design, including consultation information and estimates, visit https://www.
