Charlotte Dujardin was accused of striking a horse (Image: Getty) Greg Rutherford has hit out at Charlotte Dujardin after the Olympian was accused of striking a horse multiple times with a long whip. The six-time Olympic medalist was set to compete for Team GB in Paris, but was forced to withdraw after a whistleblower sent a clip of her whipping a horse in a training session to the Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). The video, taken four years ago, allegedly shows the 39-year-old mistreating a horse during a lesson with a young trainee rider.

She has now received a six-month provisional suspension by the FEI. During a debate on Storm Huntley’s Channel 5 show on Wednesday (July 25), the presenter asked former Olympian Greg if he thought Dujardin’s six-month ban was fair. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.

. Greg Rutherford - 2012 'Super Saturday' left me with feeling of guilt [LATEST] Greg Rutherford agreed that Dujardin's ban was the right decision (Image: Getty) Completely agreeing with the decision, the Dancing on Ice star said: "First and foremost, it's the right decision for her to not be involved with the Games. Of course, there’s no sound or whatever else, but we can all see with our own two eyes that what she's doing to the horses is completely unacceptable.

" "So ...

the right decision," he declared. The 37-year-old continued: "It's just a shame in a way, because it’s taken four years to come out, and obviously there's not really been any mention of it beforehand. "This should have come out straight away and there should have been an investigation and she shouldn't have been riding since that incident, to be totally honest.

" He added: "So I'm pleased that she's been removed in that way and hopefully there'll be a good investigation and everybody will do the right thing." Don't miss..

"What happened was completely out of character and does not reflect how I train my horses or coach my pupils, however there is no excuse.

I am deeply ashamed and should have set a better example in that moment." The whistleblower's lawyer, Stephan Wensing, spoke to BBC sport about his client's feelings about releasing the video. "It's not fun to ruin a career.

She's not celebrating; she doesn't feel like a hero," he said. "But she told me this morning this had to be done because she wants to save dressage."
