The five birdies to close were long and tough putts; we were so fortunate for them to drop” said Norman-Fortin, who said Marcoux had convinced him to put an old putter in the bag.

“Thank God he did,” Norman-Fortin said. “It was our second year playing. Last year we finished second,” Marcoux said.

“We both seem to play much better in tournament golf. We love this format. We make a good team and pick each other up when the other person misses.

” Finishing second at seven under was the team of Anthony Rea and Claude Blondeau. Tied for third at six under were the teams of Tyler Nolan and Mark Ashfield and brothers Josh and Matt Moore. There were a couple of exciting playoff finishes.

In the Kanata Granite Ladies C Division. Sarah Kennedy and Susan Holtom finished in a tie with Kathy Logan and Julie Laframboise at 10 over par. Logan and Laframboise emerged with the title on the third playoff hole.

Article content “Kathy gave me a great read on a putt and I stepped up and made it,” Laframboise said. “This doesn’t even feel real,” Laframboise added when asked what the win meant to her.

This was the first year Logan and Laframboise paired up in the Sun Scramble, although they had both played in the event with different partners in past years. “It was a bit nerve-wracking,” Logan said. “The ending of the round and the playoff, I haven’t had nerves like that in years, but I love it.

” Next was Sonia Girouard and Julie Brazeau at 11 over. In the Absolute Comedy C Division, Joe Winton and Pasquale Marano had four birdies and a bogey for a back-nine 33, forcing a playoff with Connor Hisko and Brodey Marshall after both teams finished at five under. A 30-foot putt on the second playoff hole gave Winton and Marano the win.

Gary Birtch and Glenn Scott were next at three under. “Rockland is a bit more challenging for us. It takes away our advantage, which is the long ball, since it’s set up a bit more for target golf,” Marano said.

“I had one in play most holes, so Pasquale could do a bit better for us off the tee,” Winton said. Article content Marano made some big putts, including the one to seal the win in the playoff.

Marano also talked about something anybody participating in the tournament would be feeling. He thanked the event’s volunteers for their hard work. “Without all the staff and tournament volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to compete in this great event,” he said.

Joan Meyer and Shannon Gorman won the Bud Light Lime Ladies D Division, finishing at 14 over, 10 shots clear of two second-place teams: Paula Roy and Lisa Monkhouse and Cheryl Tataryn and Kelli Cumming. Meyer and Gorman met five years ago on the first tee of the Ottawa Sun Scramble, introduced by a mutual friend. “We are so excited to win, but more importantly we just love to have fun, meet new people and enjoy the golf,” Gorman said.

The duo finished in second place the past three years, each time losing in a playoff. That made this one so sweet. “We love both eQuinelle (the site of Round 1 Tuesday) and Rockland.

They are beautiful courses and we really enjoy playing together and adding in the competition aspect makes it such an enjoyable day,” Meyer said.
