This was Dion’s first performance since she was in December 2022, following a series of show cancellations and postponements for “severe and persistent muscle spasms.” The had affirmed her commitment to making a comeback in her documentary “I Am: Céline Dion,” released last month and in an interview with Vogue France in April.

Gaga sang the French song “Mon truc en plumes” (“My thing in feathers”) by Zizi Jeanmaire and was accompanied by 10 dancers and 17 musicians. Other performers included French-Malian pop star Aya Nakamura, opera singer Marina Viotti and Grammy-nominated metal act Gojira. The Paris Olympics opening ceremony is the first event that isn’t held in a stadium; it’s taking place along the Seine with athletes arriving by boat.
