CBeebies is gearing up to celebrate Heritage Month with a delightful initiative that brings bedtime stories to young viewers in four African languages. From 2nd to 29th September, CBeebies will broadcast seven enchanting Sleepy Time Stories in Isizulu, Sesotho, Tsonga, and Afrikaans. This showcases the rich diversity of South Africa’s languages.
CBEEBIES FOR HERITAGE MONTH The special programme will air daily from 7 pm to 9 pm on DStv channel 306. The selection of stories promises to captivate the little ones while also giving parents a chance to enjoy quality family time. This move by BBC Studios is designed to honour the cultural heritage of the nation and highlight the importance of linguistic diversity, according to BBC.
CBEEBIES AND SLEEPY TIME STORIES Pierre Cloete, the Commercial Director at BBC Studios in Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative. “To mark Heritage Month and celebrate the diversity of our nation , we wanted to shine a spotlight on some of our African languages with the help of our pre-school channel, CBeebies,” Cloete said. “As CBeebies is for little learners, translating a selection of the Sleepy Time Stories to four languages will allow our little viewers and parents to learn or develop their language skills.
They also get to enjoy the shows throughout September.” CBEEBIES TRANSLATED TALES The translated CBeebies tales will include beloved classics such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Elves and the Shoemaker, and The Ugly Duckling. Each CBeebies story will be presented in Isizulu, Sesotho, Tsonga, and Afrikaans, except for Bluey S2 Set 1 Episode 26: Sleepy Time .
This will be available only in Isizulu. This special edition of Bluey will be a treat for young fans of the series. It offers them a familiar character in their native language.
WHAT’S ON OFFER Here’s a glimpse of what’s on offer: The CBeebies stories will also be available for streaming on the BBC Studios Africa YouTube channel, according to Mother And Child. This will allow viewers to catch up on the tales anytime they like. LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT This initiative not only entertains but also provides a valuable opportunity for language development.
