• The Cayuga County Office for the Aging 's Meals on Wheels program has an urgent need for drivers in the southern part of the county. The program strives to keep older adults who struggle to care for themselves in their homes for as long as possible. "Household chores and self-care aren’t as easy as they once were, and oftentimes, the home delivery of a hot meal, accompanied by a caring smile and friendly check-in, are what make the difference for one to stay in their home," the office said in a news release.

• The Old Erie Canal Heritage Park in Port Byron is looking for volunteers to help tell the story of the enlarged Erie Canal, in Cayuga County and beyond, and the Erie House. Shifts are 9 a.m.

m. daily, and training is provided. The park is a collaboration between the Canal Society of New York State and the Thruway Authority, and the canal will celebrate its bicentennial next year.

• Volunteers are wanted for the Macrophyte Survey Program , who help Finger Lakes Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management identify aquatic invasive species. Volunteers throw a hand rake into a water body of their choice every two weeks from June to October and relay what plants they find using a phone, tablet or computer. org . • Volunteer drivers are sought for the Disabled American Veterans Volunteer Transportation Network , which includes a station in Auburn. The network consists of 14,000 square miles in 14 counties, and is headquartered at the Syracuse VA Medical Center.

Due to the dwindling pool of volunteer drivers, veteran requests for rides to medical appointments are sometimes turned down. "Too often, we do not have the personnel to pick up veterans in many of our remote locations," the network said in a news release. "Much of the area we cover is not serviced by any form of public transport, which means without the (network), many of these veterans cannot get to the medical care they so justly deserve.
