Wednesday, August 21, 2024 CIDOT proudly participated in the 2024 Cayman Islands National Attractions Authority (CINAA) Summer Camp engaging with local students over the past four weeks. This exciting collaboration provided CIDOT the opportunity to present on educational and interactive sessions, aimed at deepening students’ understanding of the tourism industry and its importance to the Cayman Islands. Each week, CIDOT met with 25-40 students at the historic Pedro St.

James, where participants were divided into two groups. The sessions ran from 9:15 a.m.

to 10:15 a.m. and were tailored to suit different age groups (ages 7-11 and 12-16).

During the first two weeks, CIDOT introduced younger students to the fundamentals of tourism, emphasizing the importance of preserving our national attractions and maintaining the Cayman Islands as a premier destination. Engaging and fun activities helped students grasp the significance of tourism within their community. In the final two weeks, CIDOT took a more career-focused approach with the older students, encouraging them to consider future careers in the tourism industry.

The sessions highlighted what they should study at university and offered insights into various career paths and different opportunities offered by CIDOT. Topics such as PRIDE training, the “Know Your Cayman Islands” program, and the concept of being “Caymankind” were also incorporated. CIDOT’s participation in the CINAA Summer Camp demonstrated our ongoing commitment to fostering local talent and supporting the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.

This initiative successfully inspired the next generation to explore the vast opportunities available in the tourism industry..
