Pune: The Yavat police in rural Pune on Wednesday registered a case against four traders from Navsari in Gujarat on the charge of duping two jaggery traders of Rs1 crore from Daund. The traders had ordered jaggery from the two suppliers by claiming they had bagged Gujarat state govt's order worth Rs50 crore for the supply of jaggery. The duo supplied jaggery to them between the year 2019 and May 2024.
However, the traders did not make any payments to the suppliers, the police said. A case under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 409 (criminal breach of trust by merchants), 420 (cheating), 467, 468, and 471 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. A 32-year-old trader from Daund has lodged a complaint with the police.
A Yavat police officer said that the complainant and his brother run a jaggery business. Since 2019, the complainant was supplying jaggery to two traders at Navsari in Gujarat. "According to the complainant, till 2021, the traders did not pay the bill of Rs18 lakh to him," the officer said.
He said that the complainant and his brother then went to Gujarat to recover the money. At that time, two relatives of the traders promised him to clear all his dues. "Believing them, the complainant again supplied jaggery to them.
But, they did not clear his dues," the officer said, adding that in 2022, the traders again approached the complainant and told him that they had bagged the contract worth Rs50 crore of Gujarat govt for supplying jaggery through th.
