1 2 City-based civic issues group Pune Samwad and Cartoonist Combine (an organisation of Marathi cartoonists ) organised a competition to raise voter awareness recently. The goal was to get citizens to start discussing the upcoming state election and to encourage everyone to vote. It also intended to make people talk about imperative issues that political representatives must address.
Ameet Singh from Samwad said, "Voter awareness is crucial. Politicians who come to power shape our future and that of the city. One must be aware of all issues plaguing the city before voting.
This is what we wanted to achieve with the cartoon competition. Once citizens start speaking aloud about important matters like the environment, conditions of roads and pollution, they will hopefully be mindful and research candidates — electing the one who most serves their needs." The competition saw 44 participants, and 11 invitees.
There were a total of 86 submissions, 19 by invitees and 67 by participants. A poll was conducted on Pune Samwad's WhatsApp group and two judges from Cartoonist Combine decided the winners. Bagging the first place was Dinesh Dhangavhal.
