“Avatar” director James Cameron has revealed that Michelle Yeoh won’t be a part of the upcoming third “Avatar” film as previously reported. Three years ago, late producer Jon Landau a photo of Yeoh on the set of the third “Avatar” which led many to believe she would be part of the film which was recently officially titled “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. Cameron has now cleared the confusion up, telling she’s in the fourth and fifth films and isn’t a part of the third: “Michelle Yeoh won’t be in 3.

She’s in 4 and 5. So that got a little bit misreported.” Cameron famously shot the second film, third film and the first act of the fourth film together.

Part of that is due to the child actors involved as early in the fourth film, the franchise will undergo a time jump with various characters aged up by a good few years. Yeoh will be much more involved in filming moving forward as her scientist character Dr. Karina Mogue will be involved more in what’s left to shoot.

Cameron says: “She will be coming in soon to do her part, which is an interesting, fun character. I mean, we’re getting ahead of ourselves now. This whole thing has been planned for years and years.

The scripts were all written years ago, through the end of movie 5. So we’ve been working on parts of 4 even as we go along, mostly because we’ve got this young cast. We had to shoot them all while they were still young.

We love Michelle. She was always a movie star, but she’s blown up into a huge, huge phenomenon. I look forward to working there.

” “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is currently set to open in cinemas on December 19th 2025 – then will come a slightly longer gap before “Avatar 4” in December 2029 and “Avatar 5” in December 2031..
