Today (January 29) is , and those celebrating will be welcoming the Year of the Snake. But ahead of today, Chinese communities across have already started their celebrations. The Chinese Students and Scholars Association in hosted an event at the Cambridge Corn Exchange that was filled with live music and dance performances.

This year's celebration followed the theme of "Bridges of Light, A New Year’s Delight". Visitors were treated to performances by the Cambridge Chinese Orchestra and a range of solo and group dances including a traditional sleeve dance and a lion dance featuring lion costumes. The President of the Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Cambridge, Ruohan Zhang, also made a speech to welcome in the new year.



The Chinese Community in celebrated by holding an afternoon event on Saturday, January 25. Ran Wei took to the stage to perform a classical Chinese dance and there were a range of Tai Chi performances including from the Deyin Tai Chi Institute and Faye Tai Chi Friends. The Chinese Women in Peterborough group ended the performances by singing "Tomorrow will be better" and encouraged everyone to sing along.

Guests were also treated to food and could try their hand at calligraphy.
