Saturday, December 28, 2024 Cambodia’s Dara Sakor International Airport opens, promising enhanced connectivity, boosting tourism, and driving significant economic growth in Koh Kong and beyond. Dara Sakor International Airport, managed by Coastal Airport nvestment Co. Ltd (CAI), officially launched trial operations on December 26, marked by the arrival of a chartered flight from Phnom Penh International Airport carrying over 50 passengers.
Strategically situated in Kiri Sakor and Botum Sakor districts of Koh Kong Province, the airport represents a $200 million investment by CAI. During the first phase, a 218-hectare area has been developed, with plans to expand an additional 1,000 hectares in the upcoming phases. The airport is part of the Union Development Group’s broader project in the region.
The “First Domestic Chartered Flight Arrival at Dara Sakor International Airport” event was graced by Mao Havannal, Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA). Havannal praised the collaboration between CAI and the SSCA’s leadership and technical teams, emphasizing that Cambodia’s political stability over the past two decades has fostered growth across all sectors, including aviation. “This airport is poised to be a pivotal hub connecting Koh Kong province to other domestic and international destinations, while also driving tourism, trade, and economic development across Cambodia,” Havannal remarked.
