SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Monday night saw the return of fans to the Golden 1 Center following a large disturbance that left multiple people trampled on Friday. Businesses around Sacramento's Downtown Commons are now implementing new safety measures and asking Golden 1 to communicate with them to keep them aware of future situations.
"I think it's really just disappointing that our community reacted in that way," said Hanna Noelle, who works at Tru Encompass Beauty, a salon directly in front of the Golden 1 Center. Following Friday's events, Noelle said they are now looking into new safety measures. "We are definitely going to be looking into a staff meeting just so that we can prepare all our staff for the future.
In case there is an incident where we need to get our staff or our customers or other people in DOCO out," Noelle said. On Friday night, there was a scheduled concert with rapper Rod Wave. Doors were supposed to open at 6 p.
m., but that was delayed. Around 9 p.
m., Sacramento police say they got reports of a possible shooting outside the arena. When officers arrived, they found evidence of fireworks, not gunfire.
But the situation caused unrest among the crowd. "I was worried when I got the text that said that police are locking down the mall. I was worried about my jewelry store for sure," said Jillian Beaver, the owner of Lucky Gold Permanent Jewelry.
Beaver's store is new to the Downtown Commons. Following Friday's events, she says there should have been more securi.
