Sunday, August 18, 2024 Bulgaria’s Caretaker Minister of Tourism, Evtim Miloshev, recently addressed the possibility of expanding the number of lanes at the Durankulak border checkpoint. Speaking in an interview on Nova TV, Miloshev emphasized that while this initiative is still in the conceptual stage, discussions have already begun with the relevant authorities. Durankulak, a key entry point for tourists from Romania, has seen a significant increase in traffic this year.

This surge is partly due to the ongoing repairs at the Danube Bridge, which has diverted more travelers to the Durankulak route. The Minister noted that the current tourism season is on track to be one of the most successful yet, with steady numbers from traditional European markets and an uptick in visitors from more distant countries like Uzbekistan and Mexico. Miloshev highlighted the importance of promoting Bulgaria’s tourism potential on a global scale, noting that the country offers a vast array of attractions that are increasingly drawing both international and domestic tourists.

The Minister also observed that domestic travel among Bulgarians has risen significantly, a trend that has accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposed expansion of lanes at the Durankulak border checkpoint is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Tourism to enhance Bulgaria’s appeal as a travel destination and to ensure a smooth experience for visitors. As these plans progress, they are expected to further bolster the country’s tourism infrastructure and capacity.
