TENNERTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Behind steady contributions from a trio of Brody McDaniels, Jerin Westfall and Jevon Westfall, the Buckhannon-Upshur boys basketball team notched consecutive victories over Preston, North Marion and Teays Valley, pushing its season-opening winning streak to four straight before ultimately suffering its first loss of the year to George Washington to close out a busy week.

A mid-game McDaniels shooting exhibition and a late Jevon Westfall scoring surge allowed the Buccaneers to escape with an overtime road win over Preston in its first game of the week on Tuesday, 62-55. McDaniels netted five of the Buccaneers’ nine 3-point jumpers, pouring in a team-high 17 points, 14 of which came over the second and third quarters to keep Buckhannon-Upshur afloat, while Westfall scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth and overtime to pace Buckhannon-Upshur to a comeback victory. Jerin Westfall scored in every quarter and overtime en route to finishing with 13 points while Xavier Robinette also topped double-digits with 10 points in the win.



A combination of Jevon Westfall’s playmaking, a series of creative finishes from Jerin Westfall and an efficient perimeter display from McDaniels allowed Buckhannon-Upshur to down the visiting North Marion Huskies in convincing fashion in its second outing of the week on Thursday night, 65-43. Each scoring in double-digits, the Buckhannon-Upshur trio combined for 50 points to pace the Buccaneers to its third straight wi.
