Sam, 40, has confessed that filming scenes with Nicola, 37, certainly wasn’t all smooth sailing. In the first half of the series, Lord Debling is one of the strongest contenders for Penelope’s heart, with the pair courting at various balls and events.
Many Netflix fans will remember the dramatic and slightly hilarious moment when Lord Debling heroically rescues Penelope from a runaway hot air balloon. In the scene that unfolds very suddenly, the gentleman dives in front of harm's way in order to protect Penelope, while her other love interest Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) pulls on the ropes to keep the balloon from hitting her. While the scene might have been romantic, Sam revealed that filming it was quite the opposite.
Discussing filming the Netflix show on Australian TV show The Project alongside co-star Jessie Madsen, who plays Cressida Cowper, he revealed it was actually “very unsmooth”. He said: "I had to do a scene where I had to dive in for the hot air balloon scene. “I had to do this very heroic swoop in to save Nicola's character, Penelope,” he added.
