Two years ago, I gathered a group of Baylor’s 2012 baseball players together via video teleconference to reminisce about that Big 12-winning “Feed the Beaver” season. At one point in all the laughing and chops-busting, things devolved into a Max Muncy lovefest.

Muncy, true to his nature, tried to deflect it all. He wasn’t there to talk about himself. But his former Baylor teammates were genuinely happy for all the big-league success he had achieved.

And it makes total sense. How could anyone not like Max Muncy? In a group Zoom call, the 2011-12 Baylor Bears baseball team remembers its 24-game win streak, "Feed the Beaver," road trips and a whole lot more. Tribune-Herald sports editor Brice Cherry (clockwise from top center) talked to C Josh Ludy, SP Josh Turley, 1B Max Muncy, OF Logan Vick and RP Crayton Bare.

RF Adam Toth is in the center. Joining the call later, in the bottom row, are SP Trent Blank and SS Jake Miller. If you’re like me (and much of America), you’re probably having a hard time finding anyone to root for in this New York Yankees-Los Angeles Dodgers World Series.

It’s like Evil Empire East versus Evil Empire West. One is Darth Vader, the other is Thanos. I spotted a meme the other day of a guy holding a sign that said, “I JUST WANT BOTH TEAMS TO LOSE,” and I couldn’t help but think, “Yeah, I get it, dude.

” But if I’m picking one horse in this race.
