As previously reported, campaigners have been worried about the condition of the Old Assembly Rooms on Trinity Street in Weymouth. The building is owned by the Old Rooms Inn, which is operated by Greene King Brewery. The rooms are one of a handful of historic buildings in the town from the seventeenth century.

It said: “We are taking the concern surrounding the Assembly Rooms very seriously and we’re currently in the process of meeting with campaigners to resolve the situation.
“Our priority is still registering ownership and applying for listed building consent to make the necessary upgrades.” READ MORE: Protest over state of Old Assembly Rooms Campaigner Mark Vine, from the Dig The Street pressure group, said: “Our hopes are that they tell us they will make good all of the repairs that need doing and have needed doing for many years now in order to stop any further degradation of this beautiful old Weymouth building. He said: "It's a complete mystery to us how the ownership ended up the way it has, but surely, if they want to get full ownership of it, then it is in their interests to make sure the building doesn't fall into even worse repair over the coming Autumn and winter months of bad weather. "Our one and only concern is that the building is put right.

He said: "It just shouldn't be allowed to happen.
“There is till a lot of resentment amongst Weymouth people about the way we lost the Tudor Mansion in the old High Street in the 1960s. Let's not lose another precious town asset from around the same period.".
