Upgrade to an A220-500? Breeze Airways has announced a major expansion of its route network, adding 18 routes and five new cities to its map. With the new additions, the young airline will serve more than 200 routes. Expanding again Breeze Airways is one of the United States’ youngest carriers.

Founded in 2018 by David Neeleman, the airline’s first flight took off in May 2021. In the first year and a half of operations, Breeze transported more than 1.5 million passengers and is now growing its route network to more than 200 destinations.

Earlier today, the airline announced it was adding 18 routes and five new cities to its route network. The new cities are; New York-Newark, Daytona Beach, Erie, South Bend, and Wilmington. All the cities will have at least one route starting in November, but some start in February 2025.

“With the addition of Newark, Breeze now serves four New York City area airports while continuing to expand our footprint across the U.S. By connecting the dots between underserved city pairs, we are giving travelers more options than ever to fly affordably and comfortably to over 60 destinations across 30 states on more than 200 nonstop flights.

As seen in the list above, none of the new routes will be operated daily. And, the expansion shows that Breeze is continuing its mission of connecting underserved places to more popular destinations.

For example, in February, Breeze will begin connecting Wilmington to Orlando and Fort Myers, two very popular destinations year-round, but especially in the winter. The addition of service to Orlando will be direct competition to Avelo Airlines, which already operates the route. The other airline service in Wilmington is primarily to other airline hubs.

Portland, Maine will have new service to Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida, which will be Breeze’s second Florida destination. Currently the airline has flights to Orlando International Airport on the Airbus A220-300. To celebrate its new announcement, Breeze is offering 35% off all base fares, roundtrip, if purchased by Friday at 23:59 Pacific Time.

The sale is valid for flights between August 28 and February 4, 2025, and from April 28 to March 13, 2025. Eyes on international flights In late June, the Federal Aviation Administration granted Breeze its approval for International Supplemental Operations . This means that now, Breeze can operate charter flights outside of the US, and other unscheduled operations.

At the time, David Neeleman said that he expected that full-fledged approval for scheduled passenger operations would come late this summer. The airline is first eyeing the Caribbean but then hopes to be able to fly to Ireland and the United Kingdom. Interested in the Airbus A220-500? For some time now, there have been rumors that Airbus would make an Airbus A220-500, a stretched version of the currently largest Airbus A220-300.

But, nothing has come to fruition, even though many expected that would come at last year’s Paris Air Show. Breeze has chosen the A220 for its fleet renewal and expansion and will remove its first-generation Embraer aircraft from service in the coming years. Breeze’s president, Tom Doxey, mentioned at an event that if Airbus were to make a larger A220, the airline would be interested.

The conversation was centered around the future international expansion and David Neeleman has previously said that Breeze is interested in planes that could fly the same range as the Airbus A321LRs..
