Brandon Barash is saying goodbye to Salem. The Days of Our Lives star revealed he's exiting the daytime soap after five years—and not by his own choice. Infeed, he recalled being stunned when he learned he was being written off by showrunners back in March.
“I knew exactly what was happening as soon as I was called up to [the boss’] office,” Barash—who joined Days in 2019, replacing late actor Tyler Christopher in the role of Stefan—told Soaps.com in an interview published Oct. 25.
“And she said, ‘Look, this is not my doing. I don’t like it. And this is no reflection on you or your abilities.
You’re very talented. We know your work ethic is very high, but it’s just where we’re deciding to take the character.'” Calling the news a "gut punch," Barash noted that he “was in the middle of a contract, and it was the writers’ decision” to oust Stefan from the Peacock series.
Fans will find out where the character’s arc goes with the 45-year-old’s last episode airs Monday, Oct. 28. And it may be his last ever episode on the daytime soap as Barash admitted he's unsure if he'd return in the future if a new Stefan storyline arose.
“I don’t know,” the General Hospital alum told the outlet. “This is the second time this has happened to me on Days of Our Lives . And, you know, it would have to be very, very right.
