Pune: A 13-year-old boy sustained a bullet injury to his leg after a loaded revolver , kept in a bag in a cupboard, went off when the bag fell as he opened the cupboard in his flat in Dhankawadi around 3.15pm on Tuesday. The boy, Abhay Shirke, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Senior inspector Chhagan Kapse of Sahakarnagar police said, "We have impounded the revolver belonging to his father, Nitin Shirke (40), a retired army jawan, who now works as a guard at the bungalow of a state minister in Katraj. Shirke secured the firearm licence from Srinagar during his posting in Jammu & Kashmir while he was in the Army. He also purchased the revolver from there.
" "We have registered a case under Section 125 (rash or negligent acts that put human life or personal safety at risk) against the boy's father, who should have kept the firearm unloaded and in a safe place in his house," Kapse said. He added, "The boy returned home from school and opened the cupboard to get out some clothes. The bag containing the revolver was kept on the upper rack.
The boy's shoulder brushed against the bag, and it fell. The gun misfired as soon as the bag landed on the floor." The bullet pierced the boy's left leg, and he was shifted to the hospital by neighbours.
