After Roger Federer retired in 2022 and Rafael Nadal in and out of action due to injuries, the burden of keeping the show going fell on Novak Djokovic ‘s shoulders. Carlos Alcaraz (Roland Garros and Wimbledon) and Jannik Sinner (Australian Open and US Open) shared the four Grand Slam titles between them. Meanwhile, the Laver Cup also saw a spike in interest with Team Europe claiming the title in thrilling fashion on the back of Alcaraz’s heroics . Seeing this development, Boris Becker , who was in Berlin for the tournament, feels that despite the Big 3 out of the picture, tennis is currently experiencing a boom with more and more people taking an interest in the sport.

Becker also flagged the need to hold more tournaments like the Laver Cup. Notably, it was for the first time that Team Europe won the title at the Laver Cup without any of the Big Three players on the team.
