A Border-based builder of a Jerilderie home has won a state award for a major restoration of the property more than 30 years later. or signup to continue reading was crowned the Housing Industry Australia Victoria winner of the $750,000-$1 million renovation category at Melbourne's Crown Palladium on November 8. B&H Homes founder, the late Julian Baker, was behind the construction of the property in the 1990s.

Julian's son Joshua, the company director, said it was a major thrill for the B&H Homes team to be recognised given its connection to the house on Showgrounds Road. The property's original owners added two extensions with B&H Homes after it was built and have rejuvenated it for a third time. Both the kitchen and dining were completely rebuilt, while a new extended master suite, meeting the hotel luxury brief, was another key feature.



"Thirty years on, there was guys who were working on that home who we're still connected with, some even worked on it this time," Mr Baker said. "We were able to re-energise it and it was special to be able to give it new life. "It's lovely recognition.

We don't build for awards, but when they come along, it's really appreciated for the dedication to craft our trades have. "Our team are very committed, so it's a nice reward for them when you're independently judged to be the best in the state."
