The company has announced plans to shut down a total of 300 stores by the end of 2024 in an effort to save a staggering £618 million. The strategy for the widespread closures was revealed back in June 2023, and as it stands, Boots has already closed 253 shops, with the remaining 47 expected to cease operations by the end of the summer season.
So far, only four of the stores facing closure have been named, and they're all located in London. Despite this latest hit to the high street, Boots has offered some reassurance to its customers, promising that they'll find another branch within three miles. Moreover, the company has confirmed that staff from the closing stores will be offered alternative roles within the business.
Boots has explained that these closures are part of a strategy to "consolidate a number of stores in close proximity to each other". Last month, a spokesperson for Boots commented: "Evolving the store estate in this way allows Boots to concentrate its team members where they are needed and focus investment more acutely in individual stores with the ambition of consistently delivering an excellent and rel.
