The new store in Bootle will offer a beauty studio area where shoppers can access treatments without having to make an appointment A new store is opening in Bootle Strand today, as part of redevelopment works on the shopping centre. Superdrug has opened the doors to its new shop , following the closure of its former store on The Esplanade. The new 2,434sq.
ft store forms part of the retailer's plan to expand, with the aim of opening 25 new stores in 2024 as it celebrates its 60th year on the British high street. Superdrug sells health and beauty products, everyday toiletries, beauty treatments and luxury fragrances, such as Superdrug’s own-brand cosmetics range Studio London, as well as other best-selling ranges including B. Skin, Me+, Vitamin E, Optimum and Naturally Radiant.
Shoppers can also browse the fragrance counter, boasting premium brands such as YSL, Viktor & Rolf, Giorgio Armani, Prada and Valentino. The new store will also feature a Beauty Studio area where shoppers can access professional treatments without having to make an appointment. Treatments include threading and piercing.
Nigel Duxbury, property director at Superdrug, said: “We are delighted to be opening in a new location in The Strand Shopping Centre. "We are confident that local customers will love and welcome the new store, as it offers a wide range of popular health and beauty brands, a luxury fragrance counter as well as our professional Beauty Studio." The ECHO previously reported that the transformation of Bootle town centre is 'ready to go' after a demolition date was confirmed by Sefton Council.
The Strand was purchased by Sefton Council seven years ago for £32.5m and the local authority laid out plans for a landmark regeneration project to 'secure its future'. Plans were accelerated in March 2023 with the award of £20m as part of the government's Levelling Up fund.
In 2023, a planning application was approved by the council for demolishing parts of the shopping centre and the forthcoming construction work represents the first phase of The Strand's transformation. The plan includes provision for bringing in new leisure, education and health services and introducing more green spaces to Bootle , while retaining a retail offer at the heart of the town centre. Councillor Marion Atkinson, leader of Sefton Council, said: “It’s a really exciting time and we’re often being asked by people ‘when is it going to start’.
Major construction is always challenging, but our planning includes consideration of the events programme above, the back-to-school period, and the busy Christmas period. But we’re ready to go.” Cllr Atkinson added: “This is one of the most important developments in Sefton as it will transform the town centre and make it a place for even more people to come and enjoy – not just for shopping but also a place people can enjoy their spare time and support the local economy.
“We all know town centres need to adapt to the modern world and we’ve already seen with the Salt and Tar venue that if you give people more reasons to visit it will attract more visitors and this in turn supports our local businesses.".
