ST. LOUIS COUNTY — A South Carolina woman pleaded guilty Thursday morning to a slew of crimes she committed during a multi-state murder spree in May 2021. Adrienne Simpson and her accomplice, Tyler Terry, were charged with killing 71-year-old Barbara Goodkin while she was driving in University City and Dr.

Sergei Zacharev, 58, in a restaurant parking lot in Brentwood in May 2021. A police chief here at the time called the pair a “modern-day version of Bonnie and Clyde.” On Thursday, she pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and 12 other charges that included robbery, assault, and armed criminal action.



Terry pleaded guilty to an identical list of charges here in July. During his sentencing, Terry smirked as relatives of the victims stared him down and said they hoped he suffered before dying in prison. Simpson, by contrast, was solemn and tearful on Thursday as the judge walked her through the formal process of pleading.

She will be sentenced to life without parole later this month so that victims' families have the chance to address the court. St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell in July said he and prosecutors in Tennessee and South Carolina — where the couple has pleaded guilty to killing three other people — agreed that none of the offices would seek the death penalty, to “minimize the possibility of appeals.

” Terry and Simpson were sentenced to life in prison in those cases, as well. One of those victims was Simpson's estranged hu.
