Bolton’s renowned Octagon Theatre has hailed a “great day for regional theatre” after news that one of the region’s most loved venues has been saved. This comes after news earlier this week the Coliseum Theatre in Oldham had been saved from the imminent threat of closure after high profile campaign. Staff at the Octagon on Howell Croft Street in Bolton say this shows just how important theatres are to people all over the region.
A joint statement from chief executive Roddy Gauld and artistic director Lotte Wakeham said: “We are delighted to hear the news that the historic Oldham Coliseum Theatre will be saved from closure. “Theatre plays such an important role in a community, bringing people together, inspiring ideas and enhancing lives through stories and creativity. “We are thrilled that the hard work by everyone involved in the campaign has paid off.

Hundreds of people became involved in the campaign, which has now paid off with the announcement that performances will soon return to the historic venue.
