Bolton's MPs responded to the budget after an announcement by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on Wednesday. Rachel Reeves's budget is the first by the Labour Party since 2010 and the first by a female chancellor in history. Ms Reeves said she would "invest, invest, invest" in areas including the NHS and schools but to do so, as well as to address a black hole in the public purse, Ms Reeves said she would increase taxation by £40 billion via changes to National Insurance, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax and other taxes.

There is an increase of more than six per cent to the National Living Wage as well as billions of pounds set aside for those affected by scandals such as the Post Office scandal. Bolton's MPs Kirith Entwistle, Phil Brickell and Yasmin Qureshi responded predictably positively to the budget after the announcement by their party colleague on Wednesday.

In a statement similar to the others' statements Ms Qureshi said: "This is the first Labour Budget in 14 years, the first by a female chancellor, and the first in fixing the foundations of the country after 14 years of the Conservatives leaving public services on their knees. "The announcement of funding for two million NHS appointments, funding to rebuild schools, and a plan for more housing, including more social housing, is what we need in Bolton ." Rishi Sunak said the budget was "broken promise after broken promise" in one of the ex-Prime Mini.
