Greater Manchester Police arrested and charged several Bolton men after demonstrators clashed on Sunday, August 4. GMP ran a dedicated policing operation over the whole weekend – following demonstrations in Manchester and Bolton which saw far-right demonstrators clash with counter-demonstrators. Officers made five arrests on Saturday and 14 arrests on Sunday in relation to offences for being drunk and disorderly, possession of a weapon, assault, criminal damage, and violent disorder.
According to GMP, more arrests are likely to take place – with a dedicated team of officers working to bring charges against those already arrested and investigators carrying out work to identify further offenders. Gareth Rigby, 43, of Masefield Drive in Farnworth, was charged with assault of an emergency worker.
