A man has been arrested after a woman was struck by a car in Smithills last night, Saturday. The collision between the vehicle and the pedestrian, a woman in her 50s, happened on Ivy Road at around 8.15pm.

The woman was taken to hospital with "non-life threatening" injuries. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of traffic offences and will be questioned by police. Pictures taken at the incident show debris on the ground and a white Ford Fiesta inside the cordon, with a dent in its front passenger door.

"A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as not life-threatening. Police on scene (Image: Phil Taylor) "A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of traffic offences and remains in police custody for questioning. "Enquiries are ongoing.

" An eyewitness added: "A woman was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. The road was reopened to traffic at 12.20am.

"There was some debris on the road, like a wing mirror. There was a white car with its side bashed in.".
