Summary Boeing leads in aerospace revenue in 2023, outshining rivals like Airbus. Airbus, however, surpassed Boeing in commercial sales revenue. With a new CEO on board, Boeing aims to overcome recent challenges and improve its reputation.

A list of the top 100 aerospace companies compiled by Counterpoint Market Intelligence on behalf of FlightGlobal puts Boeing at the top in terms of revenue. The top 10 entries include some familiar names, including Boeing’s rival Airbus, as well as GE Aerospace, among others. Boeing makes it to the top According to a list published by FlightGlobal , Boeing has emerged as the number one aerospace company in terms of sales revenue in 2023.

The US plane maker has had some challenges in recent years, but it manages to outshine its rivals in overall sales. The US plane maker made $77.8 billion in 2023, compared to $76.

6 billion in 2019. European aircraft manufacturer Airbus made $70.8 billion last year as opposed to $78.

9 billion in 2019 and sits behind Boeing on the list at number 2. Most of the top 20 companies on the list pretty much held their positions year-on-year, and this year, FlightGlobal decided to drop Rostec, the holding company for most of Russia’s aerospace and defense industrial assets. Rostec was number 6 on the list last year but had to be omitted from the current list due to a lack of credible financial data.

One of the biggest falls on the list came for Dassault. It was placed 17th in last year’s rankings, but this year managed to take the 26th spot. Get all the latest aviation news right here on Simple Flying.

Commercial aviation picking up One of the takeaways from the list is that there are indications that commercial aviation is recovering, at least in terms of revenue. A breakdown of revenues of both Boeing and Airbus reveals some interesting trends as well. While Airbus trails Boeing in overall revenue, it managed to deliver 200 more planes than its US rival.

Both companies' revenues account for their overall business, which also includes defense and space, among other divisions. In terms of commercial sales alone, Airbus is the clear winner, with $51 billion in revenues, while Boeing managed to get a little under $34 billion. However, Boeing’s growth of 30.

3% in its commercial sales was almost twice as much as that of Airbus in 2023. The number of aerospace companies joining the billion-dollar club in revenue also increased this year to 64. In 2022, 61 companies managed to generate revenues of at least $1 billion, but there’s still some catching up to do compared to 2019’s figure when 66 companies generated at least $1 billion in revenue.

This year’s entire list can be found at FlightGlobal . New chapter for Boeing? The last few years have been quite rough for Boeing, to say the least. With the two 737 MAX crashes a few years ago to the Alaska Airlines MAX 9 incident earlier this year, and all the production delays, the plane maker has taken a severe hit to its reputation.

Ortberg met with the US Senator for Kansas, Jerry Moran, in Wichita. The company has seen a churn in its top management and recently hired a new CEO—Kelly Ortberg . He has a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and more than thirty years of experience in the aviation sector.

While he has a mountain to climb to tackle Boeing’s various problems, hopefully, he’ll manage to iron out those issues in the years to come..
