1 2 3 Varanasi: The crossings as well as prime locations of Varanasi will soon be beautified with sculptures made with scrap and other waste materials spared by the Banaras Locomotive Works. The sculptures signifying art and culture of the city will be used in the project. Talking to TOI on Sunday, Varanasi Development Authority vice-chairman Pulkit Garg said, “Under the beautification project we are identifying at least 60 points, including 15 crossings and 45 other locations like universities, the city’s entry points, airport, and other places of public gathering and tourist attraction to install the sculptures.

The sculptures have been already made using different materials like scrap, metal, and some electronic components. These sculptures have been prepared for the project through the corporate social responsibility fund of Indian Railways.” “The VDA is working to finalise the locations and the process is likely to be completed during the monsoon, after which the base for installation will be designed.

Once these exercises are finalised, the tender process will start to select a company for the execution of the project,” said Garg. Earlier, Garg convened a meeting of the officials of VDA, Varanasi Municipal Corporation, railway board, and Lalit Kala Akademi to discuss the project. The officials were instructed to conduct a comprehensive survey of the initially identified sites and to submit detailed drawings and designs for the project within a stipulated time frame of 10 days.
