Twenty-five years after it released, Sony Pictures and actor/comedian Martin Lawrence are looking to revive his 1999 buddy comedy “Blue Streak”. A sequel to that film is officially in early development, with Cole Maliska having come onboard to pen the script. As it’s so early in the process, no other talented is involved.
Lawrence is producing through his production company Run Tel Dat. Robert Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Stacy Lyles and Toby Jaffe will also produce. Lawrence starred in the original as a jewel thief attempting to obtain a diamond he hid in the ducts of a building under construction two years earlier.
Trouble is, said building is now a police station and the jewel is in the ducts inside the secured homicide department. In order to get it, he disguises himself as a detective and gets paired with a real policeman (Luke Wilson) to investigate burglaries. The film debuted in the top spot at the box office and grossed nearly $120 million worldwide.
The news follows Lawrence’s co-starring role in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” which has grossed more than $403 million worldwide. Lawrence is currently on a nationwide comedy tour. Source:.
