Chinese hack-and-slash game Black Myth: Wukong has launched as a runaway success across PC and console. Despite being a new IP from a debut developer, the slick action title has managed to slice its way to the top of Steam. On launch, Black Myth: Wukong player numbers have managed to speed past some of Steam’s biggest games.

With more players than Baldur’s Gate 3 , Counter-Strike , Palworld and more, the game’s launch is a huge win for its developer. Black Myth Wukong player numbers According to Steam tracking service SteamDB , Black Myth currently boasts 1,405,420 active players at the time of writing. At its peak, the game managed to pull in 1,443,570 concurrent players, a colossal achievement.

For comparison, Black Myth: Wukong player numbers are skyrocketing past Steam’s biggest games. At the time of writing, the new action game is crushing Counter-Strike 2’s 868,452 and DOTA 2’s 330,210 players. Other big single-player games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Palworld, are nowhere near Black Myth’s current player count.

For example, Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently being played by just over 37,000 players whereas Palworld’s player count is just over 21,000. However, Black Myth is nowhere near Palworld’s peak concurrent player count. At its peak, Palworld managed to bring in 2,101,535 players on Steam alone with more players on Xbox Game Pass.

On the other hand, the game has crushed Baldur’s Gate 3’s peak concurrent player count of 875.343. Cause for celebration? As the first worldwide launch from Chinese developer Game Science, Wukong is a huge success.

While technically not the studio’s first project, Black Myth’s worldwide launch is a sign of more countries joining the AAA video game space. While China has released massive hits like Genshin Impact, Zenless Zone Zero and Wuthering Waves, the country’s video game output has mostly relied on online gacha games. With Black Myth, it’s proof that Chinese games can succeed outside of that space, and that’s incredibly exciting.

Black Myth Wukong is available right now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC..
