Vadodara: A Vadodara Municipal Corporation ( VMC ) councillor from the eastern part of the city, where some areas frequently get waterlogged, has gone public with the woes of the area despite being from the ruling BJP . He found himself at odds with the party when he decided to speak out about the chronic waterlogging in his ward. Fed up with the lack of action from the civic body, Ajeet Dadhich , councillor from Ward 4 of the civic body, decided to take matters into his own hands.
He went live on social media on Friday morning, addressing citizens of his ward and the city at large. He slammed the VMC for their alleged inaction and negligence towards the issue of waterlogging. He said water from the highway entered his ward, causing chaos and inconvenience to residents.
The stormwater drain dug along the highway outside city limits had not been maintained, leading to blockages and flooding. "It has encroachments or has got filled in at some places. One can clearly see that the flow of water is obstructed at various locations," he said.
The highway has a stormwater drain laid by VMC on its side towards the city. The other side of the highway is under the Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA). Dadhich said the VMC commissioner is also the VUDA chairman and is aware of the situation.
"I raised the issue in letters, in the general board meeting and with functionaries. I told them that waterlogging will happen again. Nobody seems to be interested," Dadhich said.
