Pune: BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital 's clinical service laboratory has received a NABL certificate, making it the first govt medical college in Maharashtra to achieve the feat. The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) certificate includes a thorough review of the laboratory system, including sample collection, sample analysis, and report generation. The NABL certification assures quality and regulatory compliance and also enhances customer confidence towards these labs.

Dr Eknath Pawar, deanof BJMC, said, "All three labs —biochemistry, pathology, and microbiology — have received NABL accreditation. It is indeed a proud moment for us. This will prove to be of great help to patients and resident doctors.

The certificate came on September 11." Dr Somnath Salgar, head of the biochemistry department, said, "NABL endorses the quality of the laboratory system, and quality reports help better patient diagnosis and treatment in turn. NABL is the highest laboratory accreditation authority.

It keeps a check on the quality of lab reports as there are stringent guidelines to maintain quality. It also gives scope for dialogue between laboratory persons and clinicians." Dr Rajesh Karyakarte, head of the microbiology department, said, "Doctors trained in an NABL-certified lab are well trained for proper sample collection, documentation and proper testing, which affects the diagnosis.

The test reports would be more accurate and will be delivered on time. The patients would have more trust in such a lab, which is certified by the highest agency in the country.".
