Sunday, September 15, 2024 Bermuda tourism is experiencing a significant boom in 2024, with the island seeing record-breaking visitor numbers. As a member of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), Bermuda has historically faced challenges in attracting air travelers. However, this year marks a turning point, with the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) reporting an increase in direct flights to the island.

Sixteen flights are scheduled to service Bermuda this year, leading to a 28% increase in air capacity during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. Between January 1 and July 1, the island welcomed 61,619 airline passengers, showcasing an impressive 11.4% growth year-over-year.



Major airlines like American Airlines and Delta Air Lines have reinstated crucial routes, while BermudAir, the national carrier, recently launched a new service to Boston, further enhancing Bermuda’s connectivity. Bermuda’s status as a cruise destination is also on the rise. In the first half of 2024, the island hosted 234,790 cruise passengers—an outstanding 12.

3% increase from the previous year. This resurgence has invigorated Bermuda’s hotel sector, long considered dormant. New properties are emerging, and existing resorts are undergoing extensive renovations, revitalizing the island’s hospitality scene.

To diversify its tourist base, the BTA and Bermuda’s Tourism Ministry have launched targeted initiatives to attract more African American travelers from key East Coast markets, emphasizing Bermuda’s deep cultural connections and unique heritage. In an interview with TravelPulse, Owen Darrell, Bermuda’s Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, discussed the island’s burgeoning tourism sector. He highlighted the strategic efforts behind Bermuda’s success in 2024 and the plans in place to maintain this momentum in the future.
