Monday, August 12, 2024 Siemens Mobility has introduced its Mireo Plus B hybrid trains at Tesla’s factory in Germany , according to reports from Railway Supply, a railway transport news portal. This development marks a significant step in the collaboration between Siemens Mobility and Tesla, particularly in their joint efforts to foster sustainable and innovative transportation solutions within the industrial sector. This week, two two-car Mireo Plus B hybrid trains commenced operations, transporting Tesla employees between the factory in Berlin-Brandenburg and the final station of Berlin’s urban railway, known as the S-Bahn.

The new route, which spans approximately five kilometers, now connects the factory to the broader Berlin transportation network, enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of employee commutes. Previously, this section of the line was serviced by two diesel trains of the Talent model, which were produced by Bombardier Transportation. However, in line with Tesla’s strategy to transition to more environmentally friendly modes of transport, the company acquired the rights to operate this line last year, replacing the older diesel trains with the more advanced Mireo Plus B hybrid models.



The Mireo Plus B trains offer significant autonomy, with a range of up to 120 kilometers under normal operating conditions. This autonomy allows the trains to operate efficiently on routes with limited electrification, making them a versatile solution for both urban and suburban transportation needs. The interior design of the two-car train accommodates 120 seated passengers, with a total capacity of up to 500 passengers.

This makes the trains well-suited for corporate transportation, particularly in large industrial settings like Tesla’s factory, where efficient and reliable employee transport is crucial. The contract for the supply of Mireo Plus B trains was signed with the carrier NEB and was one of the first contracts undertaken by Smart Train Lease, a new leasing company established by Siemens Mobility in February of this year. This contract is significant as it highlights Siemens Mobility’s commitment to expanding its portfolio of sustainable transportation solutions, not only in Germany but potentially on a global scale.

The Mireo Plus B model has already demonstrated its effectiveness in Germany, with the first units entering service in Baden-Württemberg, where 27 such units were ordered. The success of these trains in Baden-Württemberg has set a precedent for their broader adoption, particularly in industrial applications like those at Tesla’s factory. The introduction of Siemens’ Mireo Plus B hybrid trains at Tesla’s German factory is likely to have broader implications for the global travel industry.
