Thursday, November 28, 2024 Bengaluru Airport has recently achieved a major milestone, becoming the third busiest international airport in India by passenger traffic. This achievement places Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) behind only Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. In October 2024, BLR recorded an impressive performance, surpassing South Indian counterparts such as Chennai and Kochi, securing its spot among India’s top three airports.
In October 2024, Delhi retained its position as India’s busiest airport, handling 1.75 million international passengers. Mumbai followed closely with 1.
25 million international travellers, while Bengaluru saw 480,000 international passengers. In comparison, Chennai recorded 450,000 international passengers, and Kochi served 410,000. Domestically, Bengaluru ranked third, with 3.
08 million domestic passengers, following Delhi at 4.68 million and Mumbai at 3.18 million.
Bengaluru’s rise can be attributed to the continued expansion of its airport infrastructure. The airport unveiled Terminal 2 (T2) in 2023, a modern, state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance operational capacity, improve passenger experience, and accommodate growing numbers. With 34 airlines operating from BLR, serving 29 international destinations, the airport is poised for further growth.
New international routes are expected to be added, with airlines such as Akasa Air and IndiGo pla.
