David Bowie could soon make a return to the stage as a hologram. The music legend has been formally trademarked under a classification that includes avatars, eight years after his death. Talks are said to be ongoing about creating an animated adventure of his career and a name has been formally trademarked under a classification which includes avatars.
The trademark has reportedly been filed by an affiliate of the Bowie estate and means the team can “forge ahead with plans”, the source added. The newly-filed trademark could see a holographic show being staged, much like the ABBA Voyage tour in London . Previous stars "resurrected" through holograms include, Tupac Shakur, who was seen performing at the 2012 edition of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, and Michael Jackson at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.
A source told The Sun: "Avatar shows are big business and ABBA's ground-breaking show has proved there is a huge demand. "Getting David on stage again in the form of a hologram would be huge." The move could be a huge money maker.
ABBA's hologram at their sold out show, Abba Voyage, has contributed £322 million to the British economy thanks to more than a million tickets sold for up to £181.50 each. Whether the Heroes hitmaker's fans would be keen on a hologram concert remains to be seen.
Bowie tragically died at his home in New York City on January 10 2016, at age 69, from liver cancer. A representative for Bowie confirmed at the time that the veteran musici.
