Standing in Times Square, New York, supermodel Bella Hadid posed for a series of snaps with her friends. The 28-year-old model shared a series of images on her Instagram page. But it's her denim that we need to talk about.

Bella, as usual, looked chic wearing a pair of basic blue jeans that featured an eye-catching detail — a continuous row of safety pins running along the front and back. Safety pins did have their moment a couple of years ago when fashion designers started incorporating them into clothing and accessories. The SS22 Collection of Versace at Milan Fashion Week featured safety pins in almost every piece.

And, looks like Bella is getting safety pins back as this isn't the first time that she has worn clothes that used safety pins as a statement-making detail. Back in 2020, she wore a Jean Paul Gaultier Safety-Pin Crop Top. The daring denim crop top was held together by two large safety pins.

The humble safety pin also inspired French designer Jacquemus, who designed and created pin/paperclip tops, also known as 'the curtain reveal' tops. When supermodel Kendall Jenner walked the runway wearing these, they became a blockbuster hit. But who can forget Elizabeth Hurley's Versace safety pin dress that she wore three decades ago in 1994? The dress is perhaps one of the most iconic red carpet outfits of all time.

The bodycon design, featuring a plunging neckline, a high-leg slit, and large gold safety pins running down the side, was created by the late Gianni Versace.
