Saturday, December 14, 2024 Hungary ’s tourism industry has witnessed an unprecedented surge in Chinese visitors during 2024, with numbers nearly doubling compared to last year. According to the Hungarian Ministry of National Economy (NGM), 183,000 Chinese tourists visited the country in the first ten months of the year, marking a significant milestone in Hungary’s efforts to position itself as a premier destination for Chinese travelers. Between January and October 2024, Chinese tourists accounted for 441,000 guest nights in Hungarian accommodations, representing a remarkable 75% year-on-year increase.

October alone saw 27,000 Chinese visitors, who collectively spent 59,000 nights in the country. These figures reflect year-on-year growth rates of 67% in arrivals and 51% in overnight stays for the month. The surge in Chinese tourism underscores Hungary’s recovery from the pandemic and highlights its strategic focus on tapping into one of the world’s largest outbound travel markets.



The numbers also signify a growing preference for Hungary as a European destination among Chinese travelers.
