Tuesday, September 17, 2024 For the first time, the stunning region of Taranaki, New Zealand will host the Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) 2024 conference, taking place from November 25th to 27th, 2024. Registrations are officially open for what promises to be a groundbreaking event in the business events industry, with participants from all corners of the sector gathering for an insightful mix of educational sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. Set against the backdrop of the picturesque Devon Hotel in New Plymouth, this year’s conference will include a full day and a half of industry-leading education sessions, along with interactive panel discussions, engaging workshops, and a chance to unwind through a relaxed social program.

The event will also feature BEIA’s annual general meeting (AGM) and numerous opportunities for attendees to connect and share insights. This year’s BEIA conference draws its inspiration from the Business Events National Strategic Direction 2025 – Pīata Mai, a vision that outlines a comprehensive plan to measure and grow the sector’s cultural, social, environmental, and economic impact over the next decade. The strategic focus will aim to expand the influence of business events within New Zealand and beyond, helping shape a sustainable and inclusive future for the industry.

According to Lisa Hopkins, Chief Executive of BEIA, “The beautiful Taranaki region, with its beaches and the magnificent maunga (mountain), will provide exactly the energy and inspiration we need to put our vision for the future into practice.” The overarching theme of the conference will focus on fostering sustainable growth and promoting positive cultural, social, and economic change. Key discussions will center around how business events can contribute to these goals while ensuring a lasting legacy for the industry.

The conference will officially kick off on Monday, November 25th, with a special Welcome Function held at the serene Fitzroy Beach in New Plymouth. This will provide a relaxed setting for participants to connect with colleagues, meet industry newcomers, and build relationships that will extend beyond the event itself. Before the Welcome Function, there will be a special session for industry first-timers, welcoming them into the fold and introducing them to the seasoned professionals who will guide them through the world of business events.

Additionally, Regional Convention Bureaux will meet in a private session to discuss important regional collaborations and strategies. Over the course of the conference, attendees will be treated to a variety of expert presentations and discussions led by some of the most respected names in the business events industry. The education sessions will take place on November 26th and 27th , and will feature industry experts from across New Zealand and internationally.

An important highlight of the BEIA 2024 conference will be the BEIA Mentorship Programme . This year’s mentorship program will come to a close during the event, offering a chance for mentors and mentees to gather and celebrate their achievements.

This initiative has played a significant role in supporting the development of young professionals within the business events sector, fostering relationships and knowledge sharing between seasoned veterans and newcomers. BEIA Chief Executive Lisa Hopkins emphasized the importance of recognizing the hard work of both mentors and mentees. “Everyone will be making the most of this time to connect with colleagues and friends in the industry, and meet new people,” she said.

As the conference draws to a close on Wednesday, November 27th , attendees will be treated to a final dose of inspiration with a presentation from community advocates David Latele and Manu Vatuvei . Known for their incredible stories of redemption and advocacy, they will share their personal journeys and offer insights into resilience and positive change.
