BEMIDJI – With 36 seconds left on the clock, the Bemidji State men’s basketball team was all tied up with Northern State, 70-70. The Wolves missed a potentially game-winning layup 19 seconds later and junior guard Tate Olson gobbled up the rebound, handing the Beavers one final chance to avoid overtime. Jalen Patterson wound up playing the hero for BSU.
The senior guard slipped into the paint on a fastbreak and completed a layup as time expired, handing Bemidji State (4-5) a 72-70 victory over NSU (1-7). Friday night’s win at the BSU gymnasium brought a four-game losing streak to a halt for the Beavers and gave them their first NSIC win of the season. Patterson had a great game for Bemidji State, tallying a team-high 20 points and tacking on six rebounds, a pair of steals and an assist.
Senior Malang Athian was right behind him, notching 17 points. Senior guard Daxton Dayley and fifth-year senior Christian Koonce also finished with double-digit point totals, collecting 11 and 10, respectively.
