While there are plenty of walks in Cambridgeshire that are nice for the whole family, if you want to try something new, this walk over in Suffolk with a conveniently placed tea room might be worth a day trip. The National Trust's Dunwich Heath Woof Walk is an easy one-hour long walk next to the seaside.

Dogs are allowed to roam free throughout the trail and there are bins dotted around to keep the area clean. The Coastguard Cottages tea room can be found near the entrance to the walk and sells hot and cold drinks, snacks, and small meals. The café also has ice cream during the summer.

There are a range of other walks available if you prefer to do a short walk or want to explore the area more. (Image: National Trust Images/Trevor Ray Hart) The trail will take you north to the public bridleway crossing.

This specific area is not gated so it may be best to keep your dog on a lead just for this section of the walk. The walk then cuts through the middle of Mount Pleasant Heath and Dunwich Heath before circling around Dunwich Heath and bringing you back to the start of the trail. Dunwich Heath is a quiet area and is filled with wildlife.

During the walk, it is worth looking out for some of the birds and insects that have made the area their home such as nightjars, woodlarks, and Dartford Warblers. (Image: National Trust Images/Trevor Ray Hart) As the trail circles back to the entrance, you can visit the café either both starting your journey or to treat yourself after. Alongside the café, the Coastguard Cottages also has a play area for children and picnic tables if you want to bring your own food for the trip.

The Dunwich Heath Woof Walk takes just under two hours to reach from Cambridge by car so it is worth planning a day trip in advance. The shingle beach nearby is also dog friendly. (Image: National Trust Images/Trevor Ra) There is a car park near to the Coastguard Cottages that is free for National Trust members and costs £6 for non-members.

The car park is open from 9am to 6pm. Story Saved You can find this story in My Bookmarks. Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
