BBC viewers were left puzzled as Fred Sirieix presented at the Olympics closing ceremony. Tonight, Clare Balding led pre-closing ceremony coverage alongside a number of sporting legends, but fans were puzzled to see First Dates star Fred on presenting duties. Fred's daughter Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix competes for Team GB in the diving.

Fred has been poolside to watch Andrea throughout the Olympics, and after her incredible success, he wrote a sweet message to her on social media. He said: "Thank you for this incredible adventure and the inspiration Andrea. What a beautiful moment! You and your brother are the best thing I have ever done and will ever do #lavieestbelle .

" As he presented the pre-closing ceremony coverage, fans were left puzzled. One fan wrote: "I’m sorry @BBCSport but why in god’s name is Fred Siriex part of the presentation team for tonight’s Olympics closing ceremony? Genuine question. Why? #Olympics #ClosingCeremony ," whilst a second added: "Sorry, apart from actually being French, and being Andrea's Dad, Fred Siriex has added absolutely nothing to the #BBCOlympics coverage.

" A third penned: " BBC , Fred is a commentator? Come on lol #closingceremony ," with a fourth writing: "Have just switched OFF this on BBC1 #ClosingCeremony , what on earth has Fred Siriex got to do with broadcasting. The entire BBC coverage has been appalling." In an emotional interview, Andrea cried as she made a heartbreaking admission after missing out on a second medal at the Paris Olympics, when she finished in sixth place in the 10m platform at the 2024 games.

"The girls dove amazing. They done better than me today and it's because they work really hard. As you said, it wasn't meant to be.

I'm not trying to be macho, I'm not upset with my performance. Three years ago, I didn't even want to be alive. Today I'm just happy that I'm alive, I'm breathing and I've got my family to support me," she said.

Fred later shared a clip of the interview, writing "My love," before later thanking fans for their messages. He said: "Thank you so much for all the kind messages. It means so much and it is so appreciated.

I will pass on the love and support to Andrea. Merci encore x." * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
