BBC viewers were left less than impressed on Sunday night as they watched the first episode of Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping. In the first episode, the two former Top Gear hosts travelled to Sweden on a quest to crack the code on how to age well. Before their trip kicked off, Paddy McGuiness showed his co-star what they'd be travelling across the country in, a vintage Cross Country Volvo.

Thrilled by the vehicle, Chris started to reel off information about their mode of transport as Paddy joked: "We might be here for some time, do yourself a brew. I had to let him do a little bit of something with cars!" The 50-year-old was referencing their time hosting Top Gear together, although this wasn't the only time the former BBC show was mentioned. While on their journey, Chris started to give viewers more insight into their 23-year-old Volvo, detailing the pedal boxes.

Paddy commented: "As I said earlier, that's the other show, right? You've got to stop doing that on this trip. It's not going to wash. A different set of viewers, just putting it out there.

" Looking disappointed, Chris replied: "Yeah, but I like all that stuff." However, it wasn't long before viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the programme, with many unimpressed with the Top Gear hints. One person said: "I’ve just watched half of the first episode of #PaddyAndChrisRoadTripping - if ever the editorial drive of a programme was more “we’ve paid for the so we’ve got to do something” I’d like.
