Recognised for his role as Jay Brown in the BBC soap EastEnders, he felt it was an "easy yes" to return to the dance floor. He said: "This is a fresh challenge and it will be so different to be learning a new dance every week and for the public to have their say.

I'm hoping to be Salsa-ing around Albert Square in no time and I'll be asking my Walford Strictly alumni for some words of wisdom. See you on the dancefloor!" Discussing Jamie's prospects on Friday's Good Morning Britain, former co-star Max Bowden weighed in with his thoughts. Host Rob Rinder queried: "I'm not a betting man but how do you reckon he's going to do?" Giving insight into Jamie's mindset, Max reported: "Well I spoke to him about eight minutes ago and I think he's nervous but he's very, very excited," adding that Jamie has a natural flare for movement: "But he's a very good mover.

" Kate inquired if they had ever danced together at social events, to which Max replied: "He's just dances all the time, he's a music fanatic so as soon as he hears a song, he breaks into some sort of routine. I think he's going to do really well and I'm very proud of him." After impressing audiences by winning the Christmas special, Jamie is now considered a strong contender for this year's Strictly crown, although originally bookies had Shayne Ward and JB Gill pegged as joint favourites for the Glitterball Trophy.

The one-time X Factor victor is joint-favourite alongside the JLS sensation, both sitting at enticing odds of 4/1. Tasha Ghouri comes in at a competitive 6/1, closely tailed by Tom Dean at 8/1 and Pete Wicks at a promising 10/1. Ladbrokes' Jessica O'Reilly commented: "Naturally, Shayne's goal is to lift the glitterball trophy and it looks like it's already a two-horse race between the former X Factor stars for glory.
